In addition to sun protection, products suited to your skin type and staying hydrated, there are more steps we can take to keep a constant glow as the seasons change in Shanghai.

1. Cleanse and exfoliate

Clean Face

Don't wash your skin with soap. Skin is acidic, and soap is alkaline-based. This causes pH imbalances and problems such as dryness. Be sure to keep pores clean by removing sunscreen, pollution and dirt residue, and makeup with a gentle cleanser each day. Exfoliation is key: exfoliated skin is smoother, more youthful appearing and even in tone.

2. Increase antioxidant use

Eating foods that contain Vitamins E, A and C (found in fruits and leafy greens) and using care products with these nutrients under your sunscreen will fight free radicals from the sun and environmental stressors.

3. Always wear sunscreen

A broad-spectrum sunscreen applied often and consistently will help keep the skin protected and younger looking. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), people who use sunscreen daily with an SPF of 15 or higher show 24 percent less skin aging than those who do not. And remember, sun damage is cumulative. Only about 23 percent of lifetime exposure occurs by age 18.

4. Seek treatment
