Each spring, Concordia International School Shanghai hosts the Concordia World University Fair (CWUF), an event that gives high school students in Shanghai access to college reps and alumni from top universities around the globe. This year, in addition to the annual spring fair, the school will host a fallfair aimed at helping upper high school students further explore potential schoolsahead of some of the early application deadlines.

Below, are some of the unique features of the new fall fair and some advice to students on how to best prepare for their encounter with representatives from prospective universities.

How does the fall fair differ from the spring fair?

Concordia has been hosting the annual CWUFin March for the past 8 years and in that time interest from students and universities has grown tremendously.  In fact, for the past two years we have had over 200 schools represented at the spring event.

The spring fair isopen to students of any grade level and is ideal for lower classmen and rising seniors who are beginning or refining their college search. It is a great opportunity for students and families to chat with university reps and alumni from some top-ranking schools.

The new fall fair, however, ismore targeted and is intended to providejunior and senior students with more opportunities during the college application season.  The date of the fair, October 14, falls approximately two weeks prior to early application deadlines for many universities.

Only university representatives employed directly with a university have been asked to attend the fall fair. Additionally, a number of universities who will be joining the fairwill be holding optional interviews with students.

Universities that choose to hold student interviews will do so between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The option to provide interviews is left to the discretion of each university representative. Please keep in mind that not all schools will be offering interviews.

Who is invited to the fair?

Because the timing falls within the college application cycle, the fall fair is only open to junior (Grade 11) and senior (Grade 12) students who are attending international schools and programs in Shanghai.

In order to attend the fair, students are required to complete the registration process, where they will receive a free admission ticket good for one student and one adult. There is no charge for registration or entrance to the fair—admission is free.

Advice for students planning to attend the fall fair

Students can make the most of their time at the fair by joining theCWUF WeChat group (QR code below), where they can review the attending colleges prior to the event.

It is strongly suggested that students explore a range of schools, not just the ones they already know. We would advise students to take the time to identify at least six schools they’ve never heard of and to research their locations and programs beforehand—students may be pleasantly surprised by what they discover.

Students are also encouraged tobring Post-it notes with their name, citizenship, school name, email address and program of interest to share with interviewing university reps with whom they would like to meet for an interview.

What should students bring to the fair?

Students hoping to sit for an interview should bring with them copies of their resume, unofficial transcripts and unofficial test scores if possible. This information will help guide their conversation with university representatives.

Students should also come prepared with some of their own questions about particular schools and programs. The fair will be the perfect chance to learn more from those who truly know the schools and what they have to offer.

The college application process is extremely important for all high school students, as the outcome helps setthemon the path to their future.Concordia’s university fairs are intended to provide an opportunity and a venue in which students canbroadly considertheir options for higher education. In this way students are more likely to find schools and programs that best fit their academic and career goals.
