Planning a family staycation with a child can be an arduous task from organizing children’s activities to selecting appropriate restaurants to eat, it is an exhausting process—if you are a parent, you understand how this goes. Travelling during the thick of summer may be a reason to refrain from domestic travel yet spending the summer inside our apartment could be mundane and stressful. After all, we also deserve to relax. This is why we decided to staycation a little differently and explore the B.Adorable package from Bulgari Hotel Shanghai.
Bulgari Hotel Shanghai has been on my list of hotels to visit. And with the Superior City View Suite option offering enrichment holiday classes for young guests, we felt it would be a great opportunity to explore how a luxury hotel can entertain a family. At Il Cioccolato, the hotel’s chocolate boutique, children can make handmade chocolates with the personal teaching of craftsmen in the studio, allowing children to experience the hotel’s heritage of fine craftsmanship in chocolate making.
Or, if your child is inclined to swim, they can enjoy private swimming lessons with a personal trainer in the 25-meter indoor heated swimming pool, surrounded by tented lanais huts and stately columns evocative of the grandeur of a Roman bath. And this is a great moment for you, the parent to rest and enjoy the pool.
What we enjoyed about this staycation was how the hotel extended its luxury living to young guests, allowing them to feel included in the overall experience. The enrichment program, with the one-on-one attention, allowed our toddler to embark on their own journey of discovery.
Bulgari’s signature Serpenti collection was translated into creative in-room amenities featuring two kid’s luggage tags, plush toy, jigsaw puzzle, kids cap, coloured pencil crayon set, plus kid’s lotion and perfume called, “Petits et Mamans", a delicate floral fragrance suitable for children aged 3 and over.
A colourful spread of specially selected Bulgari pastries ranging from chocolate lollipops, jelly candies and one specialised cake from Il Cioccolato waited for us when we walked into our room. My toddler loved the chocolate lollipop, and who blames her. We enjoyed biting into the thick cuts of chocolate just to feel it melt into a rich creaminess.
The staycation allowed us to enjoy the adult aspect of the hotel. While our child became occupied with the enrichment class, it gave us the "couple time" to enjoy what we please. Whether it was having an afternoon tea on the 47th floor or booking a spa package from the Bulgari Spa.
Meeting with friends over afternoon tea on the 47th floor
Their platter for two is a great way to start off the evening events
If you desire a pre-dinner drink with sunset views, you may also step out on the terrace for the world-famous view at La Terrazza on the 48th floor.
Whether you decide to dine in or out of the hotel, the choice is yours. The hotel is home to two-Michelin-starred Chinese fine dining restaurant Bao Li Xuan that serves Cantonese cuisine or, Il Ristorante – Niko Romito which was awarded one Michelin star by The Michelin Guide Shanghai for 3 consecutive years since 2019.
Overall, we felt the stay to be every bit as luxurious as the brand itself. Every aspect of the hotel was child-friendly particularly the staff’s superior attention to detail and warm attitude to children. The rooms were elegant, spacious and has all the amenities that is exciting for both parent and child. Everything from the easy accessibility of USB rechargeable stations to the automatic setting for the blinds closing and specially curated books in each room is a sophisticated take on a family staycation.
