Shopping for Your Baby

When it comes to shopping for a new member of the family, there are plenty of things that will come into our minds. From decorating the nursery to the “oh-so-cute” newborn clothes. But other than the fun aesthetic part of parenthood, shopping for your baby can be serious business. 

To make the shopping experience easier, I have organised this according to four categories, which is great for the parents-to-be but also for friends who might want to gift something to the new family.

Essentials

For new parents, you might have a tendency to overbuy. Since apartment space in Shanghai can be limited, essentials are important to prevent cluttering.

This includes a baby stroller, baby carrier, car seat/infant car seat. These will be costly, so think of purchases like these to last at least three years. 

Hygiene

Baby bottle, steriliser, bottle warmer. This will be your life as parents for the 9 months to the first year. 

Bottle feeding, sterilising bottles and heating up milk. Babies also need to take baths, so looking for a baby bath will also be a good item to write on your checklist.

Nursery

What would be some essential purchases that will be needed when it comes to bringing a new baby home? 

To start, you will be looking at cribs. Maybe even a baby bouncer. How about a changing table for diaper changes?

Knick Knacks

Ok, now you got your big item objects here are the others you will need to consider: pacifiers, bottles, clothing, bedding and diapers. 

One thing you will realize about shopping for baby things is, not all stores carry the same type of inventory. One store might have more stroller selection than the other, which may boast more crib selection and other knick-knacks. Shopping can be stressful, but if I can survive it you can too.
