For some families, school started on 1st September, but for others, schools have already started since the middle of August. As we are into the 2021-2022 academic year, here are how some of Shanghai schools begin the new academic year!

British International School Shanghai

British International School Shanghai started its new academic year on 19th August this year.

The year kicked off with an HSK Award ceremony on the 26th of August to indicate excellent results. Here are the eager learners as they begin to enter the new school year.

Concordia International School Shanghai

After a summer of thorough preparation for a safe reopening, Concordia faculty and staff eagerly welcomed back students to campus for the start of the 2021-2022 school year.

There was a noticeable excitement in the air on Wednesday, September 1st, and it was hard to tell who was more excited about the new school year, students, parents, or teachers.

This year Concordia’s Word of the Year is THRIVE. Our goal this year is for our students and families to grow, learn, and excel as part of our school community. Just like the branches and leaves of a tree, our best growth happens when we connect to each other and our community!

Concordia International School of Shanghai also welcomed their new Head of School, Steven Winkelman.

"I am excited to be joining Concordia International School Shanghai. After twelve years working at our sister school in Vietnam, I am ecstatic to be in Shanghai learning more about our school and my new host country.  Concordia Shanghai is a special place, and I am ready to partner with our parents and faculty to support the learning and growth of our students. I look forward to being a part of the Concordia community."

- Steven Winkelman, new head of school at Concordia International School Shanghai.

Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong

On Thursday August 19th, Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong marked the first day of the 2021-2022 Academic Year. The 19th year of Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong as a school. The day dawned with sunshine and perfect blue skies. Students and staff enjoyed a traditional dragon dance upon arrival and photo taking with their friends in our DCSPD "bus", a great way to reunite after the summer break.

We are proud to announce that this year marks the largest-ever number of starting students at the College - 1,676 - a testament to our unswerving commitment to put students first in everything we do and nurture a community around this shared vision.

Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi

On 16 August, Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi welcomed back the students for the 2021-2022 academic year. It was wonderful to see the students back on campus happy, refreshed and energised for another year of growth.

Shanghai American School Puxi

Shanghai American School Puxi started the new year by continuing a beloved school tradition that gives the Puxi elementary the opportunity to bond and engage with their community by drawing positive messages together on the sidewalks around campus.

Then, the sprinklers came on, and everyone made a mad dash to the fields for some (very wet) fun!

Shanghai Community International School

August 16th marked the first day of the academic year with a staggered start for nursery and preschool students. The halls were filled with warm welcomes, excitement, and eagerness to get started. How wonderful it was to see so many familiar faces as well as new ones and welcome them into our community.

This year we are lucky to be able to welcome so many wonderful families who have joined our school community. It is a blessing to continue growing and learning together each year in our Hongqiao and Pudong campuses.
