Shanghai, November 2024 – The Middle House is delighted to announce Olivier Dumonceaux's appointment as its new General Manager. This marks an exciting new chapter for the House.
"The Middle House is a sanctuary where Shanghai's rich cultural heritage, art, and fashion intertwine with heartfelt hospitality," says Olivier, reflecting on his role after being an integral part of The House Collective family for the past ten years. During this time, he has gained profound insights into the essence of The House Collective and developed a deep affection for it.
Having spent an impressive decade with The House Collective—beginning at The Temple House in Chengdu, continuing at The Opposite House in Beijing, and now joining The Middle House in Shanghai—Olivier brings a wealth of experience. His tenure has equipped him with a deep understanding of the unique qualities that define The House Collective. With his passion and dedication, Olivier is excited to leverage his expertise to enhance the guest experience at The Middle House.
Olivier began his hospitality journey at a young age. After graduating from the Institut Paul Bocuse in Lyon, France, with a major in hospitality management, he joined The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, where he honed his leadership skills in their restaurants and bars. His outstanding managerial abilities and strategic vision were showcased when he led the team in opening of several restaurants and bars of The Address Hotels in Dubai. Additionally, he served as the Director of Food & Beverage during the opening of Raffles Seychelles in Praslin Island and at Raffles Beijing Hotel.
Olivier joined Swire Hotels as the Director of Restaurants & Bars at The Temple House in 2016, overseeing the pre-opening and launch of the award-winning property. He was soon promoted to Executive Assistant Manager. In 2018, Olivier relocated to Beijing to take on the role of Hotel Manager at The Opposite House, where he led the team through renovations and the opening of three restaurants and bars—UNION, FRASCA, and Superfly—along with the art and events space, Commune. He advanced to the position of General Manager in 2021.
Olivier's career has taken him across nine countries, allowing him to develop a dynamic working style. He has a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and enjoys connecting with people from all corners of the globe. Beyond his professional achievements, Olivier leads a vibrant and balanced lifestyle, driven by his passion for sports, especially ice hockey. He is also a wine enthusiast.
Enthusiastic about immersing himself in the vibrant culture of Shanghai, Olivier looks forward to exploring the city’s rich tapestry of traditions, cuisines, and arts, and engaging with its diverse communities. Drawing from his experiences across different properties within The House Collective, he has gained valuable insights into the distinct character of each location. Whether it’s discovering hidden culinary gems or participating in local cultural events, Olivier is keen to connect with both the guests and residents of Shanghai, fostering a sense of belonging and creating memorable experiences for everyone who walks through our doors. He believes that by embracing the local spirit, The Middle House can continue to be a place where people come together to share stories and build lasting connections.
Fueled by a passion for travel and adventure, Olivier is ready to bring that infectious spirit to The Middle House. He aims to provide guests with a genuine taste of local flair and an unparalleled warmth that will leave a lasting impression.
