The Rockbund Art Museum (or RAM) is located on the north end of the Bund and houses a wide array of international contemporary art. Its exhibitions are designed to be catalysts for discussing topical and social issues, and while there are no permanent collections, the museum instead draws the best from some of the biggest movers and shakers in China’s contemporary art scene. Even if you’re not interested in art, the building itself, with its Art Deco-meets-eastern design, is worth checking out.
On the first floor there is a lecture hall, whilst the above floors hold rotating exhibitions. Large interiors with high ceilings provide a vast space that can house installations of all shapes and sizes. The museum also boasts stunning views of the surrounding area, and a large balcony on the top floor provides the perfect spot to grab a coffee. Audio tours are available for the exhibitions and they host workshops for kids. Their lectures are often based on finding links between different strands of the contemporary art world.
