ArtCN, or “Anne Cecile Noique ART” was launched in 2012 for the purpose of creating a cross-cultural platform through visual art. The curators do this by building strong connections with both Chinese and foreign artists and tying them together with their expertise in contemporary art. ArtCN presents solo and group exhibitions aimed at creating a dialogue between Chinese and foreign cultures, featuring artists who have reinterpreted elements from their native and/or adoptive countries.
For instance, French photographer Patrick Aalk’s debut Shanghai exhibition, titled “Eyes and Lines,” focused on urban exploration through the effects of moving and blurring, while the more recently-exhibited work of Dutch artist Cathalijn Wouters was a somber and abstract collection of the self. The unique Guangfu Lu gallery space, which re-opened after relocating from its original Jing'an location, also accommodates installations, music performances, film screenings, conferences and book launches.
