In late 2018 Shanghai Family held the annual Art & Writing Competition. We received thousands of paintings and compositions from 33 amazing kindergartens, bilingual schools and international schools. Last month, we made the final shortlist, condensing the list to 88 participants.
We interviewed the finalists from each school and recorded their insights on art and they shared their unique perspectives on why they love Shanghai.
Nord Anglia Chinese International School (NACIS) students showed serious talent and confidence in their works. Nicole from G-8 expressed the intensity of homework and other pressures on students. Michelle, also from G-8, answered a question on her work and the city by explaining that the “old lifestyle” going hand-in-hand with “modern life” makes the city different. Classmate Lily followed with her own vision of a Shanghai Dragon.
Each G-8 student had a monochrome composition, with striking black and white curves. Teacher Marilyn Reilly explained the unique points of art at NACIS, allowing students to become “Adventurers, explorers and independent researchers…” Thanks to everyone involved for sharing!
